"Buy With Prime”: Is It Helping or Hurting Small Businesses?
Should Small Businesses Use Amazon's Buy With Prime?
In reality, things are changing, and will always change, quickly.
As small business owners, we have to adapt to anything and everything that comes our way.
Yes, Amazon might take the buyer's information when someone purchases through Buy With Prime.
But you still sold the product, didn’t you?
Yes, you might have to work harder to build a following.
But that’s the game we play when giants start making bigger and smarter moves.
I love the way Gary Vaynerchuk explains it:
“Most people used to work on farms, and everyone freaked out when the tractor was invented. We figured it out. Jobs changed. We adapted.”
Amazon is the tractor.
They’re not your enemy. They’re just being smart.
So what should you do?
Work Around, or Work With Their Creativity
Start posting your content. Build your following on social media.
Look at Sony and Microsoft. They still get their money and customer data, even if you buy their PlayStations and Xbox consoles at Walmart, Target, or Amazon.
Why? Because they require an account to use the product.
Apply the same principle to your business.
How to Retain Customers Even After They Buy on Amazon
Include a postcard in the package that directs them to a special sign-up page.
✅ Use a QR code printed on the postcard or product itself. ✅ Make sure the page is ONLY accessible from that QR. ✅ Offer them value for visiting:
-
Free shipping on future orders
-
An exclusive coupon code
-
Members-only content or a downloadable freebie
You can also verify purchases or go more lenient and just reward everyone who lands there.
It doesn’t matter how you do it. What matters is you get their info and continue the relationship.
Real Example: Profit First by Mike Michalowicz
When I read Profit First, the author literally convinced me to email him.
Even though I bought his book on Amazon.
He mentioned exclusive resources available on his website, stuff you wouldn’t know about unless you read the book.
Smart play.
He turned Amazon’s sale into a long-term customer relationship.
So why can’t we?
Final Hustler Takeaway
There are a million ways to grow your business, but complaining about Amazon isn’t one of them.
Use the things people call "disadvantages" and flip them into advantages.
Only a select few push past those mental blocks.
Be one of them.
